In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the world underwent profound economic, industrial, and social transformations. This period—often referred to as the height of the industrial age—gave rise to a new visual language in commerce and governance, where art and functionality merged to meet the needs of a rapidly modernizing society. This era has always fascinated me, and I’ve been collecting objects from that time for years. As a graphic designer with over 25 years of experience, I’ve long wanted to present this visual heritage through a series of books.
This volume focuses specifically on commercial graphic design: letterheads and invoices, business cards and envelopes - the full range of communication tools businesses used at the time.
